Access2Arts and Office for Autism, supported by CreateSA
CreateSA partnered with Access2Arts and the Office for Autism to deliver targeted disability and autism awareness training for South Australia’s arts, cultural and creative sector.
Between December 2025 and January 2026, three training sessions were delivered to support organisations to build skills, confidence and understanding in inclusive practice. More than 70 sector stakeholders participated, with additional sessions planned later in 2026.
The training combined disability awareness with autism‑specific insights, focusing on practical strategies to improve access and inclusion for artists, workers and audiences. Participants explored how people engage with arts experiences differently and how organisations can reduce barriers through thoughtful planning, communication and design.
This work forms part of CreateSA’s broader commitment to improving access and inclusion across the sector. Building on these sessions, CreateSA will develop equity plans to support more inclusive practice and improve participation for marginalised and disadvantaged communities.

Why this matters
For many arts organisations, inclusive practice can feel complex or difficult to implement. This training provides practical tools and shared understanding, enabling organisations to create more welcoming environments for d/Deaf, disabled and autistic artists and audiences.
By strengthening sector capability, the program supports more equitable access to arts and cultural experiences and helps ensure inclusion is embedded into everyday practice.
Inclusive practice isn't about ticking a box, it's about creating an arts sector where every artist and audience member genuinely belongs. Through this partnership, we're seeing organisations grow in confidence and capability, and that shift is already opening doors for d/Deaf, disabled and autistic people across South Australia.
-Rebecca Young, Chief Executive, Access2Arts
The Disability and Autism Awareness Training has given me a great lens to look at how artists and audiences engage with our program. Making the d/Deaf and disabled community feel welcome is an important part of our ethos, and this training gave me both an understanding of their perspectives, as well as practical tools to share with my team.
